GOP Newsline March 14, 2008 – Help stop huge tax increase!!!

(Below is the newsletter encouraging you to contact the County Commissioners to stop this tax increase.  It is my understanding that two counties are listening to their constituents and are considering not adopting the tax increase.  Farmington 411 contacted all of the Dakota County commissioners and only ONE even bothered to reply which means the other commissioners don’t consider the citizens of the county worth the time of a reply, even a form reply.  If enough of you contact your commissioners it can make a difference.)

Franken Law Breaking Still Making National Headlines

Al Franken’s law breaking in New York continues to make national headlines. Last week it was reported widely that Franken, a self-proclaimed champion of working families, failed to pay workers’ compensation insurance for nearly three weeks and was fined $25,000 by the state of New York. This week The New York Post weighed in against Franken’s hypocrisy.

From the New York Post

March 10, 2008 — Being a liberal means that the rules apply – to everyone else.

Consider one Al Franken, author, erstwhile “Saturday Night Live” writer/performer and Air America host.

After decades in New York, Franken moved back home to Minnesota two years ago to run for the US Senate.

The move came as the state Workers’ Compensation Board fined his personal corporation $25,000 for failing to pay workers’-comp premiums from June 2002 to March 2005.

Franken said he didn’t know about the fine until a Minnesota-based Web site reported it last week.

So, obviously, he didn’t pay it.

Rep. Emmer Requests Investigation of Attorney General Lori Swanson’s Office

This week Rep. Tom Emmer requested an investigation of Attorney General Lori Swanson’s office after a slew of news stories revealed deeply troubling allegations of intimidation and retribution against state employees.

From Minnesota Public Radio

St. Paul, Minn. — Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, has tried unsuccessfully for nearly a year to get a Minnesota House committee to look into the union-busting allegations against Attorney General Lori Swanson.

Now he’s asking the Bureau of Mediation Services to look into the squabble, as well as allegations of unethical conduct in the office.

Emmer said the recent suspension of Assistant Attorney General Amy Lawler, who was involved in union organizing, increases the need for an investigation.

Quote of the Week

“…  Franken badgered and mocked a student — imitated a physical tic, imitated his way of speaking. And then refused to shake his hand. This is stunning. Franken is almost 60 years old. He went to a campus, met a conservative kid, who apparently behaved graciously (‘Well, at least it’s nice to meet you’). Civilized people simply don’t behave this way.”  (Jay Nordlinger, “The nature of their protests, &c.” National Review Online, http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NTM1ZDdlZGIyNzZhMzY1ZmQ3MTFlNTY1ZTkwNzczZmE, March 14, 2008)
